How to choose a life partner

When it comes to making the decision about choosing a life partner, no one wants to make a mistake. Yet, with a divorce rate of close to 50%,it appears that many are making serious mistakes in their approach tofinding Mr./Miss. Right!
If you ask most couples who are engaged why they're getting married, they'll say: 'We're in love'; I believe this is the ..1 mistake peoplemake when they date. Choosing a life partner should never be based onlove. Though this may sound 'not politically correct', there's aprofound truth here.Love is not the basis for getting married. Rather, love is the result ofa good marriage. When the other ingredients are right, then the lovewill come. Let me say it again: 'You can't build a lifetime relationshipon love alone'; You need a lot more!!!Here are five questions you must ask yourself if you're serious aboutfinding and keeping a life partner.

QUESTION ..1: Do we share a common life purpose? Why is this so important? Let me put it this way: If you're married for20 or 30 years, that's a long time to live with someone. What do youplan to do with each other all that time? Travel, eat and jog together? You need to share something deeper and more meaningful. You need acommon life purpose. Two things can happen in a marriage: (1) You can grow together, or(2)you can grow apart. 50% of the people out there are growing apart. To make a marriage work, you need to know what you want out of life!Bottom line; marry someone who wants the same thing.

QUESTION ..2: Do I feel safe expressing my feelings and thoughts with this person? This question goes to the core of the quality of your relationship.Feeling safe means you can communicate openly with this person. Thebasis of having good communication is trust â€' i.e.. trust that I won'tget 'punished'; or hurt for expressing my honest thoughts and feelings.A colleague of mine defines an abusive person as someone with whom youfeel afraid to express your thoughts and feelings. Be honest withyourself on this one. Make sure you feel emotionally safe with theperson you plan to marry.

QUESTION ..3: Is he/she a mensch?A mensch is someone who is a refined and sensitive person. How can youtest? Here are some suggestions. Do they work on personal growth on aregular basis? Are they serious about improving themselves? A teacher ofmine defines a good person as 'someone who is always striving to be goodand do the right ';. So ask about your significant other: What do theydo with their time? Is this person materialistic? Usually amaterialistic person is not someone whose top priority is characterrefinement. There are essentially two types of people in the world: (1) People whoare dedicated to personal growth and (2) people who are dedicated toseeking comfort. Someone whose goal in life is to be comfortable willput personal comfort ahead of doing the right thing. You need to knowthat before walking down the aisle.

QUESTION ..4: How does he/she treat other people? The one most important thing that makes any relationship work is theability to give. By giving, we mean the ability to give another personpleasure.Ask: Is this someone who enjoys giving pleasure to others or are theywrapped up in themselves and selfâ€' absorbed? To measure this, think about the following: How do they treat peoplewhom they do not have to be nice to, such as waiters, bus boys, taxidrivers, etc.. How do they treat their parents and siblings? Do theyhave gratitude and appreciation? If they don't have gratitude for the people who have given themeverything; can you do nearly as much for them? You can be sure thatsomeone, who treats others poorly, will eventually treat you poorly aswell.

QUESTION ..5: Is there anything I'm hoping to change about this person after we're married?Too many people make the mistake of marrying someone with the intentionof trying to 'improve'; them after they're married. As a colleague ofmine puts it: 'You can probably expect someone to change after marriagefor the worse' If you cannot fully accept this person the way they arenow, then you are not ready to marry them.In conclusion, dating doesn't have to be difficult and treacherous. The key is to try leading a little more with your head and less withyour heart. It pays to be as objective as possible when you are dating;to be sure to ask questions that will help you get to the key issues.

Falling in love is a great feeling, but when you wake up with a ring onyour finger, you don't want to find yourself trouble because you didn'tdo your homework.Another perspective...There are some people in your life that need to be loved from adistance.. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go of or atleast minimize your time with draining, negative, incompatible, not 'going anywhere relationships.

Observe the relationships around you.
Pay attention...Which ones lift and which ones lean?Which ones encourage and which ones discourage?Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and which ones are goingdownhill? When you leave certain people do you feel better or feel worse?Which ones dont appreciate you?Which ones make you feel good, praises you, boosts you with loving andcaring words or annotations. The more you seek quality, respect, growth, peace of mind, love andtruth around you...the easier it will become for you to decide who getsto sit in the front row and who should be moved to the balcony of yourlife.
An African proverb states, 'Before you get married, keep both eyes open, and after you marry, close one eye'; Before you get involved and make acommitment to someone, don't let lust, desperation, immaturity, ignorance, pressure from others or a low selfâ€'esteem make you blind towarning signs.
Keep your eyes open, and don't fool yourself that you canchange someone or that what you see as faults aren't really thatimportant.Do you bring out the best in each other?Do you compliment and compromise with each other, or do you compete, compare and control? What do you bring to the relationship?Do you bring past relationships, past hurt, past mistrust, past pain? You can't take someone to the altar to alter them. You can't makesomeone love you or make someone stay.If you develop selfâ€'esteem, spiritual discernment, and 'a life'; youwon't find yourself making someone else responsible for your happinessor responsible for your pain. Seeking status, sex, and security are the wrong reasons to be in a relationship.

WHAT KEEPS A RELATIONSHIP STRONG IS:
1. TRUST
2. COMMUNICATION
3. INTIMACY
4. A SENSE OF HUMOR
5. SHARING TASKS
6. DAILY EXCHANGES (meal, shared activity, hug, call, touch, notes,etc.)7. SHARING COMMON GOALS AND INTERESTS
8. GIVING EACH OTHER SPACE TO GROW WITHOUT FEELING INSECURE
9.GIVING EACH OTHER A SENSE OF BELONGING AND ASSURANCES OF COMMITMENT 10. CONCERN AND CARE FOR YOUR LOVER IN YOUR OWN WAYS.
If these qualities are missing, the relationship will erode asresentment withdrawal, abuse, neglect, and dishonesty; and pain willreplace.

TO REFRESH YOUR LIFE

When things in your life seem almost too much too handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full they agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things - your God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions -- things that if everything else was lost and only they remained your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else -- the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to Get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal."

Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

MOTHER'S EIGHT LIE

1.The story began when I was a child;
I was born as a son of a poor family.
Even for eating, we often got lack of food.
Whenever the time for eating, mother often gave me her portion of rice.
While she was removing her rice into my bowl,
She would say "Eat this rice, son. I'm not hungry".
That was Mother's First Lie

2.When I was getting to grow up,
The persevering mother gave her spare time for fishing in a river near our house,
She hoped that from the fishes she got,
She could gave me a little bit nutritious food for my growth.
After fishing, she would cook the fishes to be a fresh fish soup,
Which raised my appetite. While I was eating the soup,
Mother would sit beside me and eat the rest meat of fish,
Which was still on the bone of the fish I ate.
My heart was touched when I saw it.
I then used my chopstick and gave the other fish to her.
But she immediately refused it and said "Eat this fish, son.
I don't really like fish."
That was Mother's Second Lie.
3.Then, when I was in Junior High School,
To fund my study,
Mother went to an economic enterprise to bring some used-matches boxes that would be stuck in.
It gave her some money for covering our needs.
As the winter came,
I woke up from my sleep and looked at my mother who was still awoke,
Supported by a little candlelight and within her perseverance she continued
The work of sticking some used-matches box.
I said, "Mother, go to sleep, it's late,
Tomorrow morning you still have to go for work.
" Mother smiled and said "Go to sleep,
Dear. I'm not tired."
That was Mother's Third Lie.
4.At the time of final term,
Mother asked for a leave from her work in order to accompany me.
While the daytime was coming and the heat of the sun was starting to shine,
The strong and persevering mother
Waited for me under the heat of the sun's shine for several hours.
As the bell rang, which indicated that the final exam had finished,
Mother immediately welcomed me and poured me a glass of tea
That she had prepared before in a cold bottle.
The very thick tea was not as thick as my mother's love,
Which was much thicker. Seeing my mother covering with perspiration,
I at once gave her my glass and asked her to drink too.
Mother said "Drink, son. I'm not thirsty!".
That was Mother's Fourth Lie.
5.After the death of my father because of illness,
My poor mother had to play her role as a single parent.
By held on her former job, she had to fund our needs alone.
Our family's life was more complicated. No days without sufferance.
Seeing our family's condition that was getting worse,
There was a nice uncle who lived near my house came to help us,
Either in a big problem and a small problem.
Our other neighbors who lived next to us saw that our family's life was so unfortunate,
They often advised my mother to marry again. But mother,
Who was stubborn, didn't care to their advice,
She said "I don't need love."
That was Mother's Fifth Lie.
6.After I had finished my study and then got a job,
It was the time for my old mother to retire.
But she didn't want to; she was sincere to go to the marketplace every morning,
Just to sell some vegetable for fulfilling her needs.
I, who worked in the other city, often sent her some money to help her in fulfilling her needs,
But she was stubborn for not accepting the money.
She even sent the money back to me.
She said "I have enough money."
That was Mother's Sixth Lie.
7.After graduated from Bachelor Degree,
I then continued my study to Master Degree.
I took the degree, which was funded by a company through a scholarship program,
From a famous University in America .
I finally worked in the company. Within a quite high salary,
I intended to take my mother to enjoy her life in America .
But my lovely mother didn't want to bother her son,
She said to me "I'm not used to."
That was Mother's Seventh Lie.
8.After entering her old age,
Mother got a flank cancer and had to be hospitalized.
I, who lived in miles away and across the ocean,
Directly went home to visit my dearest mother.
She lied down in weakness on her bed after having an operation.
Mother, who looked so old, was staring at me in deep yearn.
She tried to spread her smile on her face;
even it looked so stiff because of the disease she held out.
It was clear enough to see how the disease broke my mother's body,
thus she looked so weak and thin.
I stared at my mother within tears flowing on my face.
My heart was hurt, so hurt, seeing my mother on that condition.
But mother, with her strength, said "Don't cry, my dear.
I'm not in pain."
That was Mother's Eight Lie.

DO YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT

Rules of Weight Loss
To lose one pound, you must burn approximately 3500 calories over and above what you already burn doing daily activities. Whew...that sounds impossible doesn't it? Here's how it works.
Calculate your
BMR (basal metabolic rate). Your BMR is what your body needs to maintain normal functions like breathing, digestion, etc.
Calculate your activity level. Use a
calorie calculator to figure out how many calories you burn while sitting, standing, exercising, lifting weights, etc. throughout the day.
Keep track of how many calories you eat. Use a food journal to add up what you eat and drink during the day. If you're eating less calories than you're burning, you'll lose weight.

Instead of....
Do this...
Having an afternoon Coke
Drink a glass of water. (calories saved: 97)
Eating an Egg McMuffin
Eat a small whole wheat bagel +1 tbls of peanut butter (calories saved: 185)
Using your break to catch up on work or eat a snack
Walk up and down a flight of stairs for 10 minutes (calories burned: 100)
Hitting the snooze button
Get up 10 minutes early and go for a brisk walk (calories burned: 100)
Watching television after work
Do 10 minutes of yoga (calories burned: 50)

THE BEAUTY OF ENGLSIH

The English language is the richest language known to man: it has the largest vocabulary and is spoken, in one guise or another, in every continent on the planet. It is fast becoming the global language. But this richness comes at a price, and that is it is a highly complex language. Its rules are many and varied and can often seem illogical or contradictory. Mastery of the language is a requirement of many professions, and it is highly desirable in many others. But nobody comes naturally equipped with this mastery. Standard English has to be acquired, usually by formal education. Sadly, however, in recent years schools in most English-speaking countries have pulled back from teaching this material, either through lack of time or resources, or a misguided philosophy that language cannot be governed by rules (a spoken tongue cannot and should not be ‘corrected’), and therefore such rules should not be taught. Perhaps this problem has been with us longer than we realise: George Bernard Shaw was moved to say, in Pygmalion, ‘The English have no respect for their language, and will not teach their children to speak it. . . . It is impossible for an Englishman to open his mouth, without making some other Englishman despise him’Anything that helps to bring order to a language as unruly and idiosyncratic as English is almost by definition a ‘good thing’. Even the most ardent structuralist would concede that there must be at least some conventions of usage (otherwise, as Shaw, again, once remarked, we might as well spell ‘fish’ as ‘ghoti’: ‘gh’ as in ‘tough’, ‘o’ as in ‘women’ and ‘ti’ as in ‘motion’). At the same time, rules of language must be its servant rather than its master. Much as we cherish our language for its beauty and power, it exists to enable us to communicate more effectively; any rule that obstructs or hinders such communication is almost by definition therefore a rule that does not deserve to be followed. It must also be recognised that the spread of the internet has lead to English being spoken by far more people for whom English is not their first language than by 'native' speakers. Leaving aside for now the question whether resistance to change is an appropriate response, it has to be acknowledged that the language will be developed by a far greater number of people, themselves subject to an enormous range of linguistic and other influences, than has ever been the case in the language's long and distinguished history. Resistance to such change is therefore futile.

Swine flu: Virus could 'mutate' in southern hemisphere
The World Health Organization has warned there will be more deaths from swine flu as the H1N1 virus is expected to mutate during the southern hemisphere's winter season. WHO chief, Margaret Chan, warned on Friday that the virus was "very contagious" and predicted more serious infections."We need to watch the behaviour of H1N1 very carefully as it encounters other influenza viruses circulating during the winter season in the southern hemisphere," Chan said at the 62nd World Health Assembly in the Swiss city of Geneva."The current winter season gives influenza viruses an opportunity to intermingle and possibly exchange their genetic material in unpredictable ways.
Chan described H1N1 as " a very contagious virus" and the WHO's "most pressing concern".While WHO officials, clinicians and epidemiologists were watching conditions "conducive to the start of a pandemic", she said they did not currently have the scientific knowledge to interpret these signals confidently.Chan said countries needed to adjust their responses in line with changing patterns of the "subtle, sneaky virus" which spreads stealthily, requiring extensive laboratory testing to detect and track."We do not at present expect there to be a sudden and dramatic jump in severe illnesses and deaths,"she said.At the end of April, WHO raised its alert for swine flu to the second highest level and urged all countries to intensify their preparations for a global pandemic.
